I'm running Mint 17.3 (Cinnamon) on a 64-bit desktop and an old laptop. Over 50 years experience with computers and programming, but a newbie when it comes to Linux. I've read things that suggest that it's not a good thing to do.Ībout me: I'm a refugee from Windows XP.

I found directions on how to do this, but it goes around the Mint Software Manager (I think), and I'm not sure that it will keep itself up to date, and I don't know whether it's safe to do that or not.

I couldn't figure out how to get either program to add an album cover to a set of tracks)Ģ) Find an old version of MP3TAG that works with WINE 1.6.x. (I've tried both, and neither seems very easy to use. My main objective is to clean up old tags in my music collection and add album covers to music I've recorded.ġ) Forget about MP3TAG and learn how to use EASYTAG or PUDDLETAG or something else. I started by uninstalling MP3TAG 2.80, knowing that I can re-install it if I figure out how to upgrade Wine. I'm looking for advice on how to proceed. A little searching on the net suggests that later versions of WINE are available, up to version 1.9.x (and 2.0 in beta), but they aren't offered by the Mint Software Manager. I couldn't find an older version of MP3TAG to try, and my Software Manager tells me that WINE 1.6.2 is the latest version available using Mint. However, when I tried to run it, it sat for a few seconds and crashed with an error message that I failed to write down, but the gist of it was that I shouldn't be trying to run MP3TAG version 2.80 using WINE version 1.6.2.

I believe I figured out how to install it, as I downloaded the Windows executable and ran it using WINE, It seemed to work and install, at least I got no nasty messages, and it installed icons on my desktop and in the Start menu. This field can also be used with the Filter or as a dedicated column in Mp3tag's File List. Please note, if you're using the Library feature, you'd either need to force-reload the tags of the files via File → Read Tag or Ctrl+T or start with a fresh library to see the newly added field. You can remove those frames by cutting the tag via Ctrl+X and pasting it back via Ctrl+V. This new information field is set to 1 if the ID3v2 tag of the file contains any of the ID3v2 frames not supported by Mp3tag, e.g., PRIV or SYLT.
